The number of newly built homes sold in Lafayette Parish in the first quarter is up from a year ago and while the average sale price dropped significantly.

Total new homes sold totaled 208, up from 178 from a year ago, while the average price dropped 3% to just under $316,000, according to data from analyst Bill Bacque with Market Scope Consulting.

Since 2018, the average sale price of a newly built home jumped at the end of the first quarter nearly every year, including 10% jumps each of the last two years.

New homes have also sold sooner this year, going on average in 99 days compared to 110 days a year ago.

Existing home sales were slightly down from a year ago, but the average sale price for those jumped 4% to just over $275,000.

New listings for the quarter have totaled 360, up 55% from a year ago and on pace for the highest since at least 2018, data shows.
