Frustrated with dating apps and dating in general, Jeff Seeger, 33, owner of Griffin Lawn Care and Blue Jay Snoballs, thought of a way to broaden his dating net.

While setting up a billboard advertisement for his landscape business, he could chip in an extra $100 and get a billboard that declared him as Ascension Parish's most eligible bachelor.

He listed a website, , for those interested to get in touch with him. The website is a dating "application," which is a simple Google form questionnaire.

Jeff Seeger, owner of Blue Jay Snowballs and Griffin Lawn Care businesses hands off one of his most popular snowballs Wednesday at his business site on Old Jefferson Highway.

"I was talking to the sign company putting up that billboard, and I thought this would be so funny," said Seeger. "A lot of my friends are not surprised by this. It was just a crazy idea that came to me while I was already advertising for my business."

The billboard was only up for one week, from Feb. 16 to Feb. 22.

Seeger says he got a great return on investment when a girl took him to the Endymion Ball as a result of the billboard.

Once a local news channel got word of his sign, he put it up for one more week from March 30 to April 5.

Seeger has been in three long-term relationships, but he says that he just hasn't found the one. He uses dating apps when he's in town and when he's traveling, but he finds them lacking.

Jeff Seeger, owner of Blue Jay Snowballs and Griffin Lawn Care businesses talks about his billboard dating experience Wednesday at his business site on Old Jefferson Highway.

"They're overwhelming," said Seeger. "Nobody takes them serious. I think it's the big problem. Because there's so many people on there, it's hard. How do you give the proper attention to one person when there's 500 people trying to message you on a dating app?"

He has gone on 40 dates since the billboard week, and he gives each application — 200 submissions so far — his time. It has consumed a lot of the last few weeks.

His friend and co-worker, Nick Bye, says the billboard responses have kept Seeger so busy that he and his family are ready for him to find Mrs. Seeger.

"He's gonna make somebody very happy, that much is certain," said Bye.

Seeger's parents have been protective of their son during his sudden notoriety. They are concerned that the billboard hoopla may not accurately portray who he really is.

"That's what they're most worried about, like, 'Jeffrey, you really want to put yourself out there as a desperate person?'" said Seeger. "No, the first billboard was just to be funny, but I really am trying to be serious about this and flip the script a little bit. I live a very happy life with plenty of attention and I'm very social."

Not all of the billboard attention has been flattering however, in the world of internet trolls, Seeger has had his fill. He's had some teasing from different strangers on social media, which he says doesn't get to him.

"I'm pretty strong-willed, so people don't bother me," he said. "It's just upsetting, in general, why people have to be so mean on social media."

Being strong-willed and disciplined has contributed to Seeger's entrepreneurship, which started when he began his lawn care business at 14 years old. Five years ago, he added Blue Jay Snoballs on his business property. He says that nobody's ever upset about a sno-ball, and he loves seeing kids there smiling and enjoying the day.

He approaches his dating life with a similar attitude and work ethic. He says that this recent influx of billboard-related dates has taught him how to date better by asking the right questions and listening.

"There are a lot of beautiful people, but I need to be efficient with it, too," he said. "I'm paying for all these dates."

The billboard has long been down, but his hopes aren’t. Thus far, Seeger has met a few good women, and he’s not done yet.
