St. Joseph Cathedral, 401 Main St., Baton Rouge, will observe the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (Candlemas) at all Masses this weekend.
The feast, held 40 days after Christ’s nativity, commemorates Mary and Joseph presenting Jesus at the Temple, where Simeon prophesied that Jesus would be a "light of revelation to the Gentiles."
At each Mass, the Rev. J. Cary Bani, cathedral rector, will bless candles used throughout the year. Parishioners and friends are also invited to bring candles from their homes for a special blessing.
Mass times are 4 p.m. Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. Sunday.
Additionally, Bani will offer a Blessing of the Throats during the noon Mass on Tuesday in honor of St. Blaise, the patron saint of throat ailments.
