May is Hurricane Preparedness Month and it's time to get ready before a hurricane enters the Gulf.

Be sure to verify you have appropriate supplies and that your family knows what to do in an emergency.

Seeking Feliciana artists for show

The Feliciana Artist Group in conjunction with the Feliciana Wildflower Festival will hold the Largest Art Show in the Felicianas under one roof from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 7. It will be in the Clinton United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall at the corner of St. Helena Street and Old South Drive.

Jackson branch library hosting plant sale

The Jackson Branch of the Audubon Regional Library will have an Indoor Pant Swap from 1-3 p.m. May 23. The event will include a presentation by an LSU Master Gardener. Bring clipping, small plants or seeds to trade.

Be sure to check online for other events, including movies at all three branches of Audubon.

Also, Audubon Regional Library is holding its annual Design Discovery contest for 18 and under. Participants should turn in a library-themed art piece by July 15.

Needle felting demonstration planned

A wool needle felting demonstration with Nancy Rothschild will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 11, at Old Crow Gallery, 5689 Commerce St., St. Francisville (behind Birdman Coffee).

Audubon event to look at customs

Regency Customs at Oakley will be held at 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m., May 10.

The event will explore the world of Audubon at Oakley Plantation in 1821 through the customs of the time. The walk and talk through the house explains such things as why being served a cold plate was bad, myths of the fireplace screen, and what is with this dueling. Home and garden event coming in May

The Feliciana Master Gardeners and St. Francisville Beautiful will hold the St. Francisville Home & Garden Stroll on May 10. Proceeds from the open house, garden tours and afternoon workshops go to 4-H scholarships, school gardens and other community projects. Visit  for tickets. Tickets are nonrefundable.

A plant sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Corbel and Farmers Market Barn. It is open to ticket holders and the public.

This year's tour invites visitors to experience six private residences situated in and around St. Francisville's Historic District for patio and garden tours, and opportunities to step inside select homes to see inspiring floral arrangements. Participating tour sites will be showcasing seasonal decorations and serving refreshments. The day's schedule will include:

8 a.m.-1 p.m.: Open house and garden tour. $40

1 p.m.-5 p.m.: Lectures, workshops, and a plant sale taking place in the Garden Space at The Corbel. $40

6 p.m.-9 p.m.: A "Bridgerton"-style private dinner at the newly completed home of St. Francisville Inn owners Brandon Branch and Jim Johnston, featuring a multiple-course feast prepared by St. Francisville Inn Executive Chef Michael Dardenne, and live entertainment. Seating is limited. $250 per person.

On the day, check in and collect a tour wristband and welcome packet at the West Feliciana Historical Society Museum, 11757 Ferdinand St. Tour sites will be announced 48 hours before the event. 

Art show and ball planned 

Arts for All is holding A Beaux Arts Ball and Art Show on May 17-18 at Market Hall, St. Francisville.

The ball is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on May 17. Music is by Konspiracy. Whimsical formal attire or costumes are encouraged. Refreshments provided. Entry is $20 for members. Nonmember entry is $40 and includes a membership.

The art show is themed “There are Place I Remember.” Entry fee is $25. Fee waived for members.

Deliver art work at 2 p.m. May 16. Saturday and Sunday, the show reception will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. An artist talk and People’s Choice Award will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Register for summer basketball

West Feliciana Parish Parks and Recreation has opened registration for Summer Basketball for ages 5-12.

Louisiana Main Street offers Main Street Restoration Grant opportunity

Louisiana Main Street is soliciting grant applications to assist with building restoration projects on historic commercial structures located within designated Main Street districts.

Applications may be submitted by commercial building owners and/or business owners. This grant opportunity provides grants ranging from $2,500 to $10,000. Restoration projects can be on the interior and/or exterior of the commercial structure. The deadline is May 30.

Applications received from St. Francisville Main Street building and/or business owners will compete statewide for funding with applications from other designated Main Street districts.

To be eligible, a building must be located within the designated Main Street district, be used for commercial purposes, and be at least 50 years old. In addition, the proposed work must be approved by the local historic district commission (exterior work only) and Louisiana Main Street, while also conforming to the guidelines set forth by the Secretary of the Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation.

Vacation Bible school planned in St. Francisville

The St. Francisville United Methodist Church is hosting "Road Trip, on the Go With God" as its Vacation Bible School June 23-26. It will be from 9 a.m. to noon at 9866 Royal St.

It will have Bible stories, crafts, music, recreation, snacks and interactive storytelling.
