Fifteen high-school students from the Greater Baton Rouge area have been chosen to participate in the Pre-Law Institute.
The program is presented by Urban Restoration Enhancement Corporation’s College & Career Ready Initiative through a partnership with Southern University Law Center.
Participants in the 2018 Pre-Law Institute are Hallah Bakari, Joseph Delaney, Kyra Griffin, Chelsea Johnson, Kyndall Johnson, Yasmine Little, Roderick Mason Jr., Brea Miles, Cameryn Moore, Charisma Raby, Jameracle Rogers, MiAngel Sanders, Devin Scott, LeShyne Smith and LaDainia Sparks.
Through the 14-week after-school program, students will learn about civics, law and the criminal justice system under the auspices of pre-law instructors at Southern University Law Center, according to a news release. Curriculum from the Education Development Center’s Law and Justice Program is incorporated into the academic portion of the program. The program ends with two mock trials scheduled for March.
The Pre-Law Institute also includes experiential learning through mock trial preparation and facilitation. Students will have access to the law center’s mock courtroom and participate in developmental seminars with local legal professionals.
