A 42-year-old Port Allen woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash shortly before noon Monday in Greenwell Springs.

The crash on La. 37 near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish claimed the life of Chiquita Rogers, according to State Police.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Rogers was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound on La. 37 and stopped to make a left turn. At the same time, a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer was also traveling northbound behind the Chevrolet, State Police said. For reasons still under investigation, the Freightliner struck the rear of the Chevrolet, pushing it into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the right side by a southbound 2020 Mack tractor-trailer.

Rogers was unrestrained, sustained serious injuries, and was transported to a local hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries, State Police said. The drivers of the Freightliner and the Mack were properly restrained and were not injured. Standard toxicology samples were collected and will be submitted for analysis.
