During class Wednesday, April 9, 22025, at Bossier Parish School for Technology and Innovative Learning, a student in the firefighter program at the school participates in a drill simulating conducting a search in an large area with very poor visibility.

Firefighters extinguished a brush fire along Nicholson Drive after blocking sections of street and railroad Monday afternoon. 

They began battling the fire along the tracks at 2:48 p.m. before finally putting it out at around 6 p.m., said a spokesperson for the St. George Fire Department.

During the fire St. George firefighters blocked Nicholson from Gardere Lane to Innovation Park Drive.

They also diverted traffic coming from St. Gabriel down Gardere. Officials had advised anyone traveling south of Ben Hur drive to seek another route.

By 6 p.m. firefighters had extinguished the fire and opened up Nicholson to traffic as well as the railroad.

St. Gabriel, Baton Rouge and Prairieville firefighters also assisted in containing the fire.
