West Baton Rouge is gearing up for another bout of heavy rain, storms and flash flooding in the coming days, less than two weeks after a downpour in the town of Addis triggered a rescue operation and forced 40 residents to evacuate.

A flood watch is in effect for the parish starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday and lasting through Thursday evening.

The severe weather comes as some residents are still recovering from flash flooding in late April, when parts of Brusly and Addis received 6 inches of rain in a two-hour period, according to West Baton Rouge Parish President Jason Manola.

Manola said the parish is working with an outside firm to conduct a drainage analysis and identify potential infrastructure investments, such as an additional culvert under La. 1, to mitigate future storms.

"Our approach is a professional approach, using engineering firms, using model designs, instead of just going out and sticking a bucket in the ground," Manola said. "We want to make sure what we're doing is actually going to have a positive impact on all of our residents."
