How ironic that the lead story on the front page of your paper on July 25 was about the federal government rescinding pollution regulations for industries in Louisiana that have contributed to our state’s high rates of cancer, while the lead was about increasing access to blood tests that allow early detection of cancer. It reminds me of what Gary Groesch, co-founder of the Alliance for Affordable Energy, used to say about Louisiana being a great place to be a frontline soldier for social justice because Louisiana’s people face so many challenges, from poverty and poor health outcomes to environmental degradation and corruption. At least if we get those blood tests, we can detect our increased cancer rates even sooner!
