A look at the 89th Masters tournament heading into Saturday’s play:
Leading: Justin Rose followed up an opening 7-under par 65 with a 1 under 71 Saturday to stay in first place at 8 under 136, but his lead shrunk from three strokes to one over Bryson DeChambeau.
Lurking: World No. 1 and defending champion Scottie Scheffler had a wild ride with six birdies and five bogeys for his 71. He’s three back of Rose at 5 under 139.
Interesting stat: Despite tough conditions late, Friday’s stroke average of 72.674 was nearly a full stroke lower than Thursday’s 73.589.
Where’s Rory? World No. 2 Rory McIlroy bounced back from two double bogeys on the final four holes Thursday to shoot the day’s best round, a bogey-free 6 under 66. The round vaulted him into a tie for third at 6 under 138 with Corey Conners.
Where’s LSU’s Tiger? Former LSU All-American Sam Burns was 3 over after 11 holes but played the next 25 holes in 4 under. He shot a 70 Friday and is tied for 22nd at 1 under 143.
