Alfred McKnight

A Florida man who killed a teen by drunkenly crashing his car into an SUV on Interstate 10 in Treme in 2013 pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide on Wednesday.

Judge Arthur Hunter sentenced Alfred McKnight, 31, to six years in prison in connection with the July 16, 2013 incident on westbound I-10 near Lafitte Street.

Police said that McKnight was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed into a SUV being driven by an 18-year-old woman. She lost control of her vehicle. One of her passengers, 17-year-old Sharmaine White, was ejected and killed.

Hunter said the first three years of McKnight’s sentence would be served without the benefit of probation, parole or credit for time served, according to court records.
