The third man arrested in connection with the Feb. 27 hazing death of Caleb Wilson was known as the "Dean of Pledges" of Southern University's Omega Psi Phi fraternity chapter, according to arrest records.

Isaiah Smith, 28, who Tuesday surrendered to authorities and was booked on a felony hazing count, participated in the Omega Psi fraternity hazing ritual in a 3412 Woodcrest Drive warehouse that led to Wilson's death.

Smith is a graduate student at Southern University, his attorney Franz Borghardt said.

Witnesses of the fraternity hazing ritual told authorities Smith was in charge of the pledges, in accordance with his title within the group.

Smith was responsible for punching at least one of the nine pledges, but not Wilson, authorities said.

Two other suspects arrested earlier, Caleb McCray, 23, and Kyle Thurman, 25, were each tasked with punching the pledges four times as they stood in a line in the warehouse. McCray was the one who punched Wilson four times before he collapsed, according to the arrest records.

Baton Rouge Police also think Smith is the owner of the black Dodge Charger that Wilson was transported in to the Baton Rouge General-Bluebonnet hospital. Surveillance footage from the hospital shows Smith exiting the vehicle before removing an unresponsive Wilson from the passenger seat with the help of hospital staff.

Smith's father, Todd Smith, leases the Woodcrest Drive warehouse where the hazing took place and operates his business California Hardwood Floors from the building.
