Higgins did what the Lafayette Republican has done since first elected in 2016: win reelection without the need for a runoff.

He defeated Republican "Xan" John, of Lafayette, and Democrats Priscillia Gonzalez, of Lafayette, and Sadi Summerlin, of Westlake. Neither challenger raised the minimum amount of money to require reporting to the Federal Elections Commission.

Higgins, 63, is on the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, the Homeland Security panel and the Armed Services Committee. He also is a member of the rightwing House Freedom Caucus.
